LCSO Mission Statement
Our mission is to offer a high-quality, enriching classical music experience to our members and to our audience in north-central Lake County area by rehearsing and performing masterpieces of the classical repertoire in an informal, family-friendly atmosphere.
LCSO Vision Statement
Our vision is to become a highly-respected, cohesive, dedicated group of community musicians providing the best in classical music to northern Lake County audiences, offering performances on par with those of the fine community orchestras in Chicago and its near suburbs. Our orchestra will also include respected instrumentalists from the Lake County music community who can lend their expertise and artistic direction to our community members.
As we begin our first season of music-making, we plan to perform classical music primarily in a chamber ensemble arrangement before enlarging our repertoire. This will allow us to begin performing highly enjoyable classical music, while still recruiting additional members to complete a full symphony orchestra roster. In the meantime, each of our string sections will led by professional musicians from the community, who will provide great artistic and technical guidance. We welcome musicians of all ages, both professional and amateur, who would be interested in playing with us.
Establishing the Need for the LCSO
The demographics of the northern and central portions of Lake County suggest that many young families are choosing to settle in this area and commute to jobs in Chicago and distant suburbs. One of the consequences of living relatively far away from either Chicago or Milwaukee is that the distance and the associated cost in traveling into the city or near suburbs inhibits attendance at a wide variety of cultural activities. This presents an urgent need for a local, family-friendly, neighborhood-based symphony orchestra to offer our area this cultural outlet.
